Me before you…

I’m a sucker for a love story. As soon as I saw the trailer for this film, I was hooked. I knew I had to see it…and today was that day. As someone who is in love with love stories you have to get your priorities in order. Now the first thing you have to work out is if its going to be upsetting in parts. If it is, you need to choose your company wisely. After all you do NOT want to go with someone who has never seen you cry before. This means this is defiantly not a film for first dates…unless of course they are ‘into’ sweaty, blotchy, crying women…in which case run away before you guarantee a second date they may be a bit too weird. So grab any of your girlfriends, get to the cinema, and be ready to fall in love, have your heartbroken and feel the need to live your life fuller than ever…all in the space of an hour and fifty.

If there’s anything that this film gives to you, it’s courage. Courage to live your life, fall in love again, explore the world, and most importantly take chances…or at least that’s what I got from it. Everything about this film for me was perfect from the story line to the director and especially the actors, it was just perfect. The performances given by Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin were amazing! The belief and passion in their eyes for each other was remarkable, even that was enough to make anyone believe in the story. Maybe even a little bit too much…now the only thing the women who have watched this film need is for it to happen in real life.

Daily Blessings

Now I know this is intended as an insightful and possibly inspiring blog but I was stuck with what to write for this blog, and even which direction to go in. So like I do with everything else…I took to google to get some ideas. I then stumbled across an extremely ‘uplifting’ list of blessings we have in life. On this list was things like wisdom, protection, purpose, and free will…to which on this one I read it as ‘free wiFi‘ so in a freak turn of events I’m going to start off with that twist.

  1. Free WiFi – I know this is shallow in someway when we look around at the world at what we’ve been given and the life we have, but I am grateful for free WiFi. I mean firstly because I have a blog…I mean I can’t go a day without checking my stats to see what countries have looked at me. Another good reason for free WiFi is, if what I’m planning takes off (going travelling), I need wi-fi to be able to contact my family without spending money.
  2. Freedom – This ones a bit more profound. I am grateful for freedom. I’m grateful for the freedom to be able to do what I want, wear what I want, and be who I want. There’s so much freedom we have in this life that we don’t realise when compared to others…it’s crazy to think about it.
  3. Nature – It’s a beautiful world we have, and we waste it by being stuck inside doing pointless daily tasks. Theres so much to experience and learn, and it’s right outside our doors.
  4. Having a voice – Everyone has their own opinions, and they have a choice to voice it in a number of ways. Whether people listen or not, the chance of one person listening and it influencing them in some way is massive. So be brave, and maybe even take a stand.
  5. Having support – there’s a lot that happens in life, but even if there’s only one person to offer support it’s normally gratefully accepted. Especially through tough times and even if it’s by doing the smallest act of kindness…it goes a long way…

Hopes for love…

The 1997 film Titanic taught me a lot about love. Being a young age when it came out on ‘video’ means this was the first real influence I had about a different type of love. Much different from the love between family members. In fact to be specific it showed me two different types of love.

The first and most evident is the love between Jack and Rose. I call this the ‘Dreamers Love’, quite simply because those who dream of finding and keeping love mainly have this type in mind. The kind of love where you heart skips a beat whenever they enter the room, where they make you forget everyone and everything around you and where most of all you’ll do everything you can to be with and stay with that person. Throughout the film we see this, and through the scenes shared with Rose’s mother or Cal we can see a very strong contrast between the love she receives and the love she wants and deserves.

The second type of love you see in Titanic is a controlling kind of love. Where it appears only one person is in love, and therefore has a lot of anger towards the other. However I’m sure Cal’s actions towards Rose isn’t just because she doesn’t love him. As Cal has a lot of money (meaning lots of power), he believes he also has the ability to control everyone around him by buying them. Which is no kind of love I particularly desire, and in the end he realises that love doesn’t work like that. That eventually the person being forced into submission will always break free.

I think this film in particular influenced a lot of people of all ages and all over the world about their views on love. Not just because of the story line and the characters, but also due to the actors relationships. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet clearly have a great bond and friendship, which allowed them to work together comfortably meaning the overall relationship between the characters Jack and Rose was very believable. In a way I think many couples would aspire to be like that, maybe more so from a females point of view.

The main thing I personally took from the film is how love can be, but not always is… maybe this is just me being overly hopeful, but I don’t think anyone should settle for any less than what Jack and Rose portrayed. You may not find love as soon as you want to, but don’t give up. I believe everyone can find something like this. Someone who can save you from the worst situations possible (maybe not literally like Jack but you get the idea). Keeping searching…
