Amsterdam in July…

Last July a few friends of mine decided to book a last minute trip to Amsterdam. I’d only been to Amsterdam once before for a few hours on a ferry trip, and to be honest I wanted to travel as much as possible last year…so I just thought why not!

There was 6 of us altogether, and it was the first time I’d been on holiday with a group of friends rather than just one friend. Normally I’m a bit hesitant about travelling in groups, just due to the fact that you have to accommodate to what everyone wants to do. But to be honest this wasn’t an issue for us at all seen as everyone wanted to do relatively similar things anyway, which made things a hell of a lot easier.

So we stayed for three nights in Amsterdam at the Camp Inn Hotel, which was a great hotel which also offered bike rental which was ideal to get around Amsterdam. It was room only, which was perfect as it allowed us to check out what food Amsterdam had to offer, and it really didn’t disappoint. Inside the city centre, Amsterdam basically accommodates all food lovers. Theres pastries, pizza, spaghetti, sandwiches, burgers…you get the idea. Not to mention the coffee there is amazing!

Obviously we didn’t just go for the food aspect of Amsterdam, so we had just three days to fit in as much of Amsterdam’s culture as humanly possible. We went to the museum of prostitution, the sex museum, we went on a tour at the Heineken Experience, Amsterdam’s Ice bar, the red light district, and of course we popped into a bulldog coffee shop. Oh I almost forgot we also took a leisurely bike ride through the streets and along the canal…which meant nearly getting run over by a tram (when in Amsterdam eyy).

Overall the trip was pretty amazing. We didn’t get to go to the Anne Frank house, but it’s definitely on my bucket list. Either way I’ll have to go back at some point, as Amsterdam has so much to offer. Hopefully there are more group trips are to come too! Oh and the weather was pretty good too!

STOP WHAT YOUR DOING! Autumn is here…

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I LOVE AUTUMN. So stop what you’re doing right now and take this is…autumn is here for you! BUT are you ready?

No this isn’t just a blog to notify you of the start of the best season. This is basically your go to guide, a mini handbook if you will…of how to make that transition between the season of sweat and the season of crunchy leaves.

First things first. Hot drinks! Leave the ice behind, the cold is coming for you. Now I know in warmer countries, you probably want to keep the ice around all year-long. But come on guys this is England, and it gets cold here…fast. So unless your drinking some sort of frappuccino, just forget about ice, your just making it worse for yourself.

Second on the list of amendments is clothing. Go right to the back of your wardrobe and pull out anything that screams autumn/winter. I’m talking boots, scarfs, big coats, tights, jumpers, and….the fluffy socks!! (this might not apply if your like me and wear them all year round). Anyway it’s time to start wrapping up warm so layer up!

This leads onto the next change of make up. Now that there’s less chance of us sweating off half a face of make up while we’re at work or just out and about, we can wear it all again. This means autumn eyeshadow, with some serious blending! And of course dark lipstick, the holy grail. Get ready for some dark red lips on Instagram!

Back to the food side of things, now that we don’t have to bare flesh we can start being a little bit more naughty again. So what if you accidentally skip the fruit and go for a chocolate pudding smothered in warm custard. Or even that bacon and brie panini instead of the standard salad. It’s okay! Not many people will see your body now until next year. (Probably shouldn’t be saying this when I’ve just started the gym like!)

Last thing on the agenda! Spending! For some reason I think I spend the most money in this season. Whether its candles, fleece blankets, books I’ll plan to (but never will) read, some random room decorations, or again a massive amount of fluffy socks…if it’s in the shops, it’s in my basket!

Anyway I’m sure I could go on and on but I’ll let you get back to the rest of your day now. Don’t forget this month I’ll be attempting my own blogtober…so keep your eyes peeled! 😘

My First Time in Majorca…

Ok so about a week ago my Instagram was insane! Not to blow my own trumpet, but I always think my instagram is better when I’m off travelling…A bit of a hint by the title but I went to Majorca/Mallorca for the first time (not sure why there’s two spellings)…anyway.

I’d been to the Balearic Island of Ibiza before and in many way this was very similar looks and personality wise, but on the flip side the holiday in general was different. The first reason why it was different was we went (me and my friend Georgina) all inclusive. ALL INCLUSIVE! Oh my. Saying it now even makes my mouth water. I mean sure there was alcohol of all varieties, wine, sangria, beer, vodka, rum. BUT I’m talking about the food! I love food…so the thought of being able to eat whatever I wanted however many times I wanted was just amazing. The three main foods for me just in that week were bread smothered in butter, grilled salmon, and of course Ice Cream! There were other foods of course with lots of variety ,so I didn’t waste the chance to try things I’d never tried before like Paella and lemon fish and even Muscles.  But the bread! I have no idea what the Spanish do but their bread is soooo good! Moving on…

The second thing that was different about this holiday was the company. Having only two people means that there’s less people to keep happy. Sure going in groups can be great and you can always split up, but there are a lot more people to keep happy lets be honest and you aren’t always going to want to do the same things. Another thing about it just being the two of us is that we are easy people to please in general, so it was nice to just have a relaxing holiday with nothing or no-one to worry about. Pure bliss…until I dragged Georgina shopping every so often. Sorry not sorry.

Now Majorca as an Island is a mixture of things. You have the nice quiet, relaxing area like where we stayed in Santa Ponça. You have the shopping, city side of it like in Palma, and then you have the Magaluf side, which you know each to their own but I wouldn’t like to stay their personally. We only saw this part for a few minutes, and I’m normally not one to judge but them few minutes going through Magaluf was enough (yes that rhymed…depending on how you say it). It wasn’t pretty put it that way. Palma on the other hand was a gorgeous city full of amazing architecture, art, entertainment and of course shops!

Getting around Majorca was easy too. Walking around there were lots to see and do in Santa Ponça, including DJ Rudy’s magical Bingo Bongo nights at the hotel, always a treat! But the buses were easy to get to too (once we found a bus stop) and cheap to get us to towns around Santa Ponça, it was €3.40 to get to Palma! Definitely worth the money, even if the bus driver was counting his money rather than keeping his eyes on the road all the time :/.

Overall the whole experience was brilliant for me, from the hotel to the whole Island I couldn’t fault it and I’d definitely go back again! I returned home feeling so relaxed and even refreshed…Until next time DJ Rudy!

Single on Valentine’s

Ok so Valentine’s Day is upon us, and although this is a day/evening for couple’s to celebrate romances old and new…this post is mainly for all the single people out there.

Now even though we’re single, there are still ways we can celebrate Valentine’s Day alone..and the chances are that when it gets to the end of the night, we are probably feeling a hell of a lot more satisfied and relaxed than a lot of couple’s will out there. So to make it simple this is my guide to kick ass on Valentine’s Day! Just as a disclaimer I am no expert at being single, but I do know how to have a great night in…so let’s get started with my way to be single on Valentine’s day.

Ok first things first FOOD. I love food and the perks of being single is that you can eat whatever the heck you want, without having to consider anyone else likes or dislikes. Pizza, Nandos, Chinese, Curry…the possibilities are endless. Hey even if you can choose, you could just have a bit of everything. All to yourself. Another great reason for being single is that you don’t have to share with anyone! I could have Ice cream with pancakes for dessert and I could eat it all with no distractions. PERFECT!

The next thing on my agenda after I get food sorted is down time. You want to be relaxed and comfy obviously. So take a bath, light some candles, get a glass of wine (or whatever you like to drink) and just relax. No need to think or worry about what you need to do, or keeping anyone else happy. Just focus on you. Then after you’ve turned into a wrinkly prune get out of the bath and into the fluffiest, most unsexy pyjama’s you have and snuggle up on the sofa.

Onto number three, now by this point in a relationship you’d either be arguing or getting ‘down to business’, sooo let’s grab our hot buff celebrity crush and throw on a romcom. Filled with highs and lows including arguments, conflict, comedy, upset, nudity, and of course sex. What more could you want from entertainment on a night in alone? Basic but brilliant. On a different note if your not into films, why not read a book or even hop onto the Xbox and play a bit of Fallout 4 for that survivor/defender inside of you.

Ok so the night is coming to a end now…but maybe your feeling a bit unfulfilled still? wondering what to do with yourself before bed? How about….some internet shopping! Maybe you saw a top or a dress you wanted last time you went shopping, or even just fancy a little pick me up. The internet is there! With deals, and offers and overall pretty things to buy. So why not? Then after you can relax into a nice warm bed (with your electric blanket) and drift of into a peaceful sleep.

And there you have it! The day is over and you can go back to your everyday life, with the blissful memory of having a nice relaxing valentines with your one true love (you)! Anyway that’s just my perfect day. Feel free to leave me any comments or feedback about have you’d spend your Valentine’s day evening and I hope you kick ass.

10 things that make me happy!

  1. Food. I love food, even when I’m down it can make me happy. Especially chocolate cake…with cream…and marshmallows. Yeaahhh.
  2. Films. I have a huge obsession with films. All variety’s, even the occasional documentaries. I like films with information in too, so I can learn new things as I’m being entertained. So films about the war, or even the stock market interest me.
  3. Emoji’s. I’m an apple user, and one of the biggest upsides of that is the built-in emojis. I love them! I use them in most messages, to cheer people up or even to be cheered up. My favourite one at the minute has to be the skull 💀. Just because sometimes I have no response, or I like to show that I’m done with the conversation.
  4. Facetime. Linking to the previous ‘apple praise’, facetime is also a built in app I love. Sometimes just a phone call isn’t enough, and I like the feeling of hanging out with someone without being physically present. Especially when your either ill or just down.
  5. Coffee. This is a relatively new thing that makes me happy. Because although I’ve worked with coffee since I was 16 I never really drunk it. However recently I’ve been drinking it more, and it gives me a nice boost to start my day.
  6. Photography. I’ve always liked doing this, but recently I’ve begun to attempt making it more professional, I’m just starting out but for the minute it’s making me happy. So I’ll see where that ends up. Here’s a link to the Facebook page if your interested. www.facebook.com/NJOramPhotography
  7. Travelling. Although I have plans to travel, right now I’m only talking about Iceland. I’ve been to Iceland twice now and each time I fall in love. The atmosphere, the environment, the people, everything. In the future I genuinely think I’d move there.
  8. Driving. I know I’ve only been driving for a few months, but if i ever feel like i need to get out…my car is always there. Ready and waiting to take me as far as my petrol tank will allow it. It’s a permanent escape route.
  9. My guinea pig. I have a few animals in my house, but the one that makes me happy most right now is my guinea pig. I mean I love my cat to pieces but…I doubt he feels the same. But with George I can get him out and all he’ll want to do is cuddle. Which is perfect when you have a anti-social cat…
  10. Mitch Albom. I know I talk about his work a lot on my blog, and also throw in his quotes but the books he writes are just…brilliant. In a way he clears my mind, and I can’t wait to start the next one. My only question is who do I move onto after I’ve read them all.
