Music and Men

The other day I was in my car driving for about an hour with the radio on. On the radio the station was going though a variety of songs from the last few years, when the realisation hit that there was a number of songs that linked to my past. To be more precise they linked to men of my past.

You see memories are a funny thing. When they are created they can be linked to the silliest things like a certain scent or a location…but for me it seems to be music. I listen to music a lot. So when I listen to certain songs, sometimes the lyrics seem to fit the current situation perfectly and therefore the song then links to that person…or it could just be a case that the song was popular at that time and the radio played it constantly while I was around them.

Anyway like songs, men come and go through life. I guess it just depends if they turn out to be a one hit wonder or a classic that never gets old. But no matter what, when a certain song from the past hits my ears, the memories will play over in my mind of my relationship with that person. In some ways it’s good, and in some ways its bad…but memories are memories. Sometimes it’s nice to look back at what once was…

I wonder if anyone reading this knows their song…heck I wonder what songs people would link to me!

“The past is a good place to visit, but certainly not a good place to stay.”

Why 80’s Music?

When asked the question of what kind of music I prefer, I normally say I like a variety. I listen to anyone from Fleetwood Mac, to Jay Z and Kanye West, going back to Katy Perry and Skrillex. But…given the choice I’d probably say that out of them all my ‘go to’ songs have to be those of the 80’s.

I’m not entirely sure what my reason is for it…It could be because that’s the music I’ve grown up to. Whenever we’d go anywhere in the car or have any music playing in the house it would be 80’s music. Whether it was Madonna, ELO, Def Leppard, or Queen…it was on, playing wherever we were and whatever time it was.

When I think about the difference in music then and music now, the main distinction for me is the passion. I don’t know why but people back in the 80’s just seemed to have so much more passion. In one way it’s as if they used music to escape all of the problems of the world. Don’t get me wrong I love the fact that there is so much emotion and truth in some of today’s music but…it was nice having that escape, and positivity. I mean when you listen to ‘Wham – Wake me up before you go go’, it doesn’t exactly make you think about all the drama and sadness in the world.

Saying that though I’m not just talking about the upbeat passion of the 80’s. After all there were many great artists like Whitney Houston, Meatloaf, Bon Jovi and Bonnie Tyler who clearly expressed the troubles they were having in life (mainly problems with love). But nevertheless they all still seemed to hold a passion, that I think a lot of the artists now lack.

Anyway for me 80’s music will always be close to my heart. What’s your favourite type of music?

Small Changes…

Although I said I wouldn’t be creating a list of new years resolutions, there is a couple of small things I’d like to try to do this year. I won’t class them as resolutions as they will just be on going improvements. Anyway here goes…

  1. Wear heels more – as a small girl I will always need more height, and what better way to solve this than with fancy shoes or boots! Also they of course add to the sex appeal…not.
  2. Not be on my phone as much – in today’s world we as a whole are anti social or ‘zombie-like’ if you will. So I think this is a good way to begin reconnecting with the world again.
  3. Go out more – I’ve never really been a drinker, but I’ve come to the realisation that I’m only young once. Also as the years go on my body won’t react as well with alcohol as it does when your younger…or so I’ve heard.
  4. Sing – I love to sing! Let it be known not very well, but what’s that to stop me. Confidence can pull off anything. Well almost everything.
  5. Save money! – Travelling isn’t cheap, and seen as it’s one of the things I want to do this year…I really need to save money.
  6. Try and find the perfect foundation – this is a constant battle. I hate spending money on something that never matches. They either dry my face out or turn me into a Oompa Loompa and that’s just not a good look!
  7. Use my camera more! – I love taking photos, I even took the time to set up a Facebook page for it…but I just don’t take enough photos. So from now on I’m going to just go on random walks every so often, plus it means I get to see the hidden areas of lovely Yorkshire!
  8. Listen to more music – I like a bit of everything when it comes to music, but it’s quite rare I just put my iPod on anymore. To add to this I’m also going to try to keep up to date with new music because I always seem to be a hundred years behind everyone else and never know new bands names.
  9. Let go – I try not to do this a lot but there just certain things I can’t seem to let go of, so its time. As Elsa says “let it go”
  10. Don’t over think! – This is just a constant battle as a girl. For some reason we all just seem to have a tendency to think way to far into everything so this year, I’m going to aim to just roll with everything and not think as much…we’ll see how that pans out.

LETS DO IT!
