Life means hope…

“There should be no boundaries to human endeavour. We are all different. However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. While there is life, there is hope.”

– Stephen Hawking

I think this quote is brilliant. Stephen Hawking is such an inspirational man for so many reasons, but for me personally this quote alone speaks volumes. We should always have hope. Hope for many of us, is what keeps us going in the darkest of times. We all go through rough patches, but as long as you have hope in something, even if it’s just one thing…you can get through it. Hope that you’ll find a new love, hope that you’ll eventually find a career that’s right for you, or even hope that you’ll find yourself after becoming lost in the world. It’s only when you lose hope in everything, that’s worrying…

We also have to remember that everyone is different. What’s right for one person, won’t necessarily be right for everyone. So we shouldn’t be disheartened by not being able to accomplish things in the same amount of time as our friends or peers. Everyone has their own path with their own timing. And if you ever get lost due to circumstance or even emotions than be brave enough to make a new path, others may even follow. Basically don’t lose hope, it will be there when no one else is. Have hope, and you will find your way to your success.

What’s in a name…

In today’s society there are so many different names, I mean there was before but now…it’s as if people are getting a bit too adventurous with choosing names for their children. Names that we didn’t even class as people’s names before. Like Apple and North and even Ransom (yes like a ransom note). I’m not saying this is necessarily a bad thing…but when it comes to me choosing names, I think I’ll be more inclined to go with some ‘standard’ baby names.

I’m not sure whether this is because of my name being quite a generic name or not. My first name is Natalie, and my middle name is Jane. Quite simple and popular names. The amount of people who have Jane as a middle name in England! Oofft there’s a lot, trust me. But I really don’t mind. I like my name. I like having a middle name too, just for the fact that if I didn’t have one my initials alone would be NO. Which isn’t bad until your signing an agreement and it looks like you don’t agree to any of it…Awkward.

Anyway each to their own…

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.” – Juliet, Romeo & Juliet.

August Highs and Lows

I don’t want to dwell on this too much because I’ve covered a lot in this months posts. There’s always going to be highs and lows to every month…but in comparison this has been an average month. I have nothing to complain about or preach about, that I haven’t already. So Instead I shall leave this month with a quote…

“There is no black-and-white situation. It’s all part of life. Highs, lows, middles.” – Van Morrison

Words of Wisdom

“Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures. A fear of time running out.” – Mitch Albom, The Time Keeper.

This was the first quote I ever posted on my blog, and it still speaks wisdom… Humans do things that can actually make us worse off, time keeping being one of them.

However it also makes us aware about how precious life is, and how we shouldn’t waste it, or let opportunities pass us by…because it might be there one minute but gone the next. Be careful and wise but also have courage to be a bit reckless at times.

Ryan Gosling once told me…

Okay so he didn’t literally tell me this…he rather said it through his character on the film The Notebook…but it still applies!!! He said,

“You can’t live your life for other people. You’ve got to do what’s right for you, even if it hurts some people you love.”

This is something I think a lot of people need to hear. As humans we spend a lot of time not enjoying life as we are trying to please other people around us. Maybe that’s by doing a job you don’t love, living somewhere you don’t love, or the worst one being with someone you don’t love. No matter what the situation, it can apply. For me this is travelling, as I’ve said over and over again. I could get a better job, be on more money, eventually move out, get a better car, and overall a better life. But right now…that isn’t for me (as silly as that sounds).

I want to get out into the world and explore every inch of it, or at least as much as I can. I need to do that for me. I need to experience it. I need to be free…at least for a while. Sometimes we get a little too wrapped up in what we are ‘supposed‘ to do, and not what we ‘want‘ to do. So my aim with this post is to attempt to encourage anyone reading to do what’s right for you! You have your whole life to please other people, but right now “do you, for you”.

Be You!

“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you!” – Dr Seuss

In times of difficulty when writing, I tend to go back to simpler means. This is one of the simplest quotes I’ve come across. However It’s also very important. It comes from a children’s book, and in my opinion this is the mind frame all children should have growing up.

Everyone is different. Different genders, races, religions, sexuality, backgrounds. Every little detail that builds up a person…makes a person who they are. So no matter what anyone thinks, you should never give up the right to be who you want to be. Which is easier said then done. Because in this life there are a lot of stigmas, and bad publicity which leads to bad opinions. For example with a lot of issues regarding terrorism in the news, certain narrow-minded people begin to think and even spread that if one person is like that from a certain religion…then it must be a religious thing. Which of course is incorrect and leads to these victims either denying their religion or being seen in a negative light. Which is ludicrous.

Another example is if someone has a metal health issue, the same narrow-minded people will think that everyone who suffers with that illness will all follow the same path. Whether its suicide, murder, theft or anything else.

Slight tangent there but the point I’m trying to make is that the world is full of ill-conceived pre-judgements, and it probably always will be. You just have to learn to ignore it and have faith that in time the world may be a better place if we work towards a better future. People need to stop denying religion, denying different sexualities, and stop believing that they are alone in the world, because they aren’t…you aren’t. And in all honesty the internet is the best place to realise that right now, all you have to do is search a problem and thousands of results will come up, proving you’re not alone with whatever problem your having.

Overall don’t listen to anyone else, you are in control of your own life…your own happiness and that is what’s important. If you need support and you go looking for it, you will find it even in the most unlikely places. Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you! Don’t give up you to please everyone else.

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it’s time to pause and reflect.”- Mark Twain

Innovation over Creativity

“Creativity is thinking up new things. Innovation is doing new things.”

— Theodore Levitt

In my opinion I think I’m quite creative. I’m creative in the sense I can make things, write things and maybe even see things others wouldn’t. However what I do lack majority of the time is Innovation. You see, I may notice opportunities where creativity is needed but then I fail to act upon them. So to state the obvious it holds me back…quite a lot.

I’m still trying to work on my new years resolutions and one of them was to improve myself. I’ve always thought that the first step to improvement was noticing the issues and this is one of them. Soooooo now I just need to work on it.  In the next few months I hope to start my own YouTube channel, I already have the layout for it and also some video ideas. But there’s one thing stopping me. What to upload for my first video?

I had a couple of ideas, one of them being a thirty-second video of me pretending to do a tutorial of how to eat a starburst with a funny accent, but then my mind starts thinking. What will people think? This will be their first impression of me, and I don’t want to mess up already. Ahh the issues of having a woman brain.

Overall I just want to start doing things, not just dreaming of them. So I think I’m just going to set a deadline to upload the first video and go from there. If all else fails the first videos that go up will be vlogs from my second trip to Iceland. I’ll just have to see how it goes…fingers crossed.
